2015

Location

Ghana

Depicts two women partially naked in a contraposto position with beads around their waist and one’s neck. they both wear a piece of cloth covering their genitals known in Akan as “Danta” which is a historical style of dressing by the people of the Akan tribe. on their heads are pots and before them at their feet are two pots and a calabash. They present themselves in the act of fetching water which is one of the main chores carried out by women during the historical days of the people of the Akan Tribe. They seem to be flaunting their bodies while they communicate.
Women generally are known for their curves especially in the African setup. Curves and cleavage is one thing that seems to attract most men. Because of their curves women are linked to circle or sphere which means perfection. However the curves and cleavages of the women are depicted in a cubist form with angular shapes and lines. The concept of this piece
is to admonish the general public that everyone has a weakness.
