Art is not a competition; it is an expression of concepts and ideas influenced by experience and interaction. As an art educator with years of teaching experience and rich engagements with fellow artists, I have observed a recurring belief: those who excel in realism—such as figure drawing, illustration, painting, and nature study—are often considered superior artists. While these skills are indeed valuable and artistically significant, the notion that they represent the pinnacle of artistic achievement is fundamentally flawed.

In my teaching experience, I have witnessed how students who are proficient in realism often look down on their peers who may not excel in this particular style. Conversely, those who struggle with realism frequently see themselves as inferior artists, believing that their peers who excel in realism are superior. This mindset can have detrimental effects on both groups: those who are proficient in realism may develop an inflated sense of superiority, while those who are not may suffer from diminished self-esteem and creative confidence. This dynamic stifles the growth of a supportive and inclusive artistic community.

Art is a dynamic field, one that does not compete with itself but instead seeks to express, explore, and create. It exists to meet functional, symbolic, and aesthetic needs. It is crucial to recognize that art in its diverse form is an open dialogue between the artist and the world, each style contributing uniquely to this conversation.

As someone deeply involved in both teaching and practicing art, I have seen the transformative power of diverse artistic expressions. From my early days, I have seen how varied styles can coexist and complement each other. The multifaceted nature of art, including everything from graphic and textile design to sculpture and performing arts etc, underscores its inclusive and expansive character.

In our artistic community, it is vital to move beyond hierarchical evaluations and appreciate the intrinsic value of all artistic expressions. Each artist brings a unique perspective, a distinct voice that enriches our collective experience. Whether one excels in realism or abstract forms, digital art or traditional crafts, the essence of art lies in its ability to convey meaning, evoke emotions, and inspire change.

Let us not look down on our fellow artists but rather encourage and uplift each other. Art, in itself, is freedom. It is a celebration of individuality and creativity. Be confident in your style and continue to shine, for it is through our diverse expressions that we truly appreciate the boundless possibilities of art.

In conclusion, as we steer our artistic journeys, let us remember that art is a shared space of exploration and growth. By embracing and celebrating the diversity within our field, we can foster a more inclusive, supportive, and vibrant artistic community. Together, we can continue to inspire, create, and transform.
