“Rich without money.” It might sound like a cliché or a metaphor, but it's a reality shaped by how we define success, our values, experiences, and expectations. This isn't to undermine the value of money or hard cash and the opportunities it brings. There's no doubt that "money answereth all things"—it provides services that meet our physical, emotional, and sometimes psychological needs. Yet, many millionaires and extremely wealthy individuals remain extremely poor in these areas, which make up our general well-being. In such cases, we can agree that their joy is incomplete. Some rich people are still restless, searching for answers, emotionally and psychologically broken despite their wealth.

On the other hand, I know individuals who are not wealthy at all but are full of themselves and genuinely happy because their 'other' needs are being met. I recount our days back in Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua. In our final year, my classmates (the Visual Art boys) and I decided to produce a song titled "Rich Without Money." It was a message to the other students from the Business and General Arts classes, who often flaunted their expensive sneakers and popped expensive wine during our entertainment programs. We wanted to show them that even with little cash, we were more fulfilled and excited in our own skins.

We lacked money, but we felt rich because we had each other. We were brothers, united as a class. That unity gave us confidence and psychological strength, making that time one of the best periods of our lives.

The lesson here focuses on emotional needs and the importance of togetherness, peace, and acceptance. These are the true markers of wealth. When we have a strong support system, genuine connections, and a sense of belonging, we feel rich in ways that money cannot buy. Emotional fulfillment and psychological well-being are essential for a truly rich life.

In our lives, let us seek to support each others emotional needs, find peace within ourselves, and accept each other. By doing so, we open up endless possibilities for happiness and contentment. Remember, true wealth is not measured by the money in our pockets but by the richness of our experiences, relationships, and inner peace. Let's cherish what truly makes us rich—sense of belonging and togetherness.

As Ghana approaches another election in December, it’s crucial to remember that peace is the seed from which true happiness and prosperity grow. We may not be a superpower nation, but we are rich in countless ways—in our unity, our culture, and our resilience. Let us protect this peace, for it is our greatest treasure.

Let us stand together, support one another, and recognize that “a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Luke 12:15). Our worth is not determined by what we own, but by the strength of our relationships, the peace in our hearts, and the love we share with one another.

When we cherish peace and togetherness, we become truly wealthy. As a nation, we have much to celebrate and protect, and it starts with each of us choosing to nurture peace in our hearts, our homes, and our communities. For in doing so, we ensure that our future remains bright, and that we remain rich ‘even’ without money.
