"DWANNIMMEN" which means RAMS HORN
A symbol of concealment, Humility and Strength, wisdom and learning. it depicts two rams butting heads, at bird’s eye view.
THE HEART LANGUAGE
The ram will fight fiercely against an adversary, but it also submits humbly to slaughter, emphazing that even the strong needs to be humble. The symbol captures these opposite qualities of the ram; meekness and it is a reminder to those who are strong to exercise their strength in humility. This is only possible according to the state of the heart, hence the adage, “it is the heart and not the horns that leads a ram to bully”. Therefore strength and Humility resides in the heart and not only on what we see physically on the outside.

The University of Cape coast is a very vibrant intellectual community, and one of the very best tertiary institutions in Ghana. A lot can be said about The University of Cape coast in terms of educational and intellectual success. This and all other can be attributed to the state of the heart of the University, which is the Library (Sam Jonah Library).

A library is a collection of sources of information and similar resources made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing.
It provides physical or digital access to material; it could be a physical building or room, or a virtual space or both. Without deny the Library can be said to be the heart of the University, because it (Library) assists the University to the attainment of set goals and objectives. It (Library) carries and keeps the institution through its mission and vision by; Providing a peaceful and serene environment for studies, the library also provides common areas to facilitate group study and collaboration.
It (Library) provides services or materials to all students including those who choose not to – or cannot afford to purchase an extensive collection themselves as their study requires. And also to them who need materials which no individual is reasonably expected to have or who require professional assistance with their research.

In addition to providing materials, Libraries also provide the services of Librarians who are experts at finding and organizing information and interpreting information need. Libraries extend services beyond the physical walls of the building by providing material accessible by electronic means, and providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing very large amounts of information with a variety of digital tools.

Therefore if The University of Cape coast is a strong intellectual community it is as a result of the heart (Sam Jonah Library). Hence the meaning of the design “The pillar of UCC” This cloth is inspired by highly symbolic African symbols and designs. Textile production is one of the oldest means or channels of expressing and portraying our culture, therefore it is very important that our designs portray highly philosophical cultural ideas and scenes. The pattern is made up of the symbol “Dwannimmen” with dot and line patterns on each symbol to better explain the philosophy, enhance creativity and eliminate boredom.

For every symbol, there is a dot in the middle symbolizing the heart according to the statement accompanying the symbol i.e “it is the heart and not the horns that leads a ram to bully”
A dot is a point or a small round spot, the outer circumference of the dot makes a circle which symbolizes purity, it stands for all things that are sacred and pertain to God, it also means female embrace and peace. therefore it has a connection or a resemblance to a mans heart.

The idea of Lines was incorporated because they always serve as a link or connection between two things. in our natural environment we see roads, foot paths, rivers, gutters, electric pools etc as natural and artificial forms or lines but they all serve their purpose connecting to a source or a place.
However, the dot and line pattern was used to explain that the heart of UCC i.e Sam Jonah Library, represented by the dot in the middle of the symbol is connected to, or influences all faculties, departments and every single individual in the institution. it explains that the pace of the institution is determined by Sam Jonah Library
